I’m looking forward to my upcoming events in London and hope I might see you at one of them. I’m honored to return to St. James Church as part of Alternatives’ Speakers Series. On Monday, May 23, I’ll be presenting, The Negativity Bias: Why Human Beings Are Born To Say No. St. James’s Church is such a historic place (William Blake was christened there) and I love the energy in this beautiful church. On Friday, May 27, I’ll be reading and signing at Watkins Books for the first time (another venerable London institution) and on May 29, I’m offering an day-long workshop for Alternatives, Writing To Awaken: Overcoming the Fear of Freedom. Last year’s daylong workshop in the parlor room overlooking Hyde Park was one of my favorites and it will be great to be there again. I hope to see you while I’m there! Visit my calendar for more details.
I’m delighted to be teaching Writing To Awaken: Memoir as a Path of Transformation a the Rowe Center from April 1 – 3. Tucked away in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, this renowned historic center offers the charm only found in New England. The magnificence of Spring will be our backdrop as we investigate the connection between the person you believe yourself to be and the internal witness who sees beyond the conscious mind. I hope you can join me. More info and registration.
We had such a great time at the “When You’re Falling, Dive” retreat at Old Stone Farm this past weekend! Thank you to everyone who attended (including camera-shy participants). Excellent writing, inspiring stories, new friendships, and wonderful insights. Sherry Kahn, the founder of Old Stone Farm, is one of my favorite people and I’m grateful to her for creating this event.
The “Awakening Genius” writing retreat this past week at the Mandala Center in northern New Mexico was outstanding. So much good work and inspiration, deep breakthroughs, laughs, and revelations. Among the revelations was Beverly Manley, left, a poet from Truth or Consequences, N.M., who blew us all away with her spirit (and her verse). Mandala is located in the center of a super-volcano and the harsh, beautiful landscape tears the senses open and make way for spiritual growth. Continue reading
The “Awakening Genius” workshop in France was even better than I had expected. Such an amazing group of people! I’m fascinated by how deeply a group of relative strangers can bond in five days when they are doing deep work together. We did a lot of writing, a lot of inquiry – into ourselves, our gifts, our desires, our choices, and what we hold sacred – and managed to have A LOT of fun, too. Continue reading
I’m looking forward to the residential retreat starting this weekend in Gindou, France! It’s called “Awakening Genius: An Exploration of Desire and the Creative Life,” and we have a great group coming from around the United States and Europe. We’ll be working at Le Perchoir des Paons, a renovated stone farmhouse in the heart of the Dordogne region. Classes and writing time will be in the mornings, and we’ll explore the sites in the afternoon, including the nearby prehistoric cave paintings at Lascaux. Since our subject is genius – by way of desire – there couldn’t be a more historically apt marker of inherent human creativity.
Each of us is born with a unique gift. Within every person exists an original spark of creativity waiting to be ignited. This creative power is our genius, a source of inherent brilliance whose dynamic potential can transform our lives once we know how to find it. In my experience, insight is the key to Continue reading
