Make Peace With Your Mind: A Conversation With Mark Coleman

“This Mortal Coil” on ABC Radio, Sydney

What a terrific conversation I had with Sarah MacDonald at ABC Radio in Sydney. Sarah is a media fixture down here, having had the top-rated interview show in the country, and has just debuted a new program called “This Mortal Coil.”  She’ll be doing in-depth, hour-long pieces on psychology, philosophy, spirituality, and the arts, and I was honored to be her first guest on the program. Lucky timing — being in Australia teaching this month. Listen to the interview here.

Omega Blue Spirit Retreat in Costa Rica

What a great time I’ve been having as always at Omega Blue Spirit. Stephan Rechtschaffen has created a real life paradise for reflection and renewal, self-exploration, spiritual practice, and being in this superb tropic setting. Howler monkeys, baby turtles hatching on the beach, chartreuse colored birds in the trees. And teaching with old friends and admired colleagues, Roshi Joan Halifax, Joan Borysenko, Elena Brower — big souls all. I look forward to teaching this retreat every year. Next week, Australia. Peace.

New Psychology Today Blogs

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing three wonderfully inspiring men for my Psychology Today blog, Ethical Wisdom. Speaking Truth to Power was the subject of my conversation with Peter Buffett, son of the famous billionaire. We spoke about the antidote to greed and the enigma of Trump. Read the interview here. Roger Housden and I discussed his new book, Dropping the Struggle:Seven Ways to Love the Life You Havewhich offers an antidote to compulsion toward self-improvement. Read the interview here. And finally, I spoke with the wonderful poet and philosopher Mark Nepo about his new book, The One Life We’re Given: Finding the Wisdom That Waits in Your Heart. It explores how our hard work and authenticity ready us for meaning and grace in our lives, and how our sincerity and effort help us survive and thrive. Read the interview here. I hope you enjoy the pearls of wisdom each of these men shared.

Writing To Awaken at Omega Blue Spirit in Costa Rica

I’m happy to be returning to the Omega Blue Spirit retreat center in Costa Rica in 2017.  I’ll be teaching “Writing To Awaken: Spiritual Memoir as a Healing Path” from January 7-14.  Located on the Pacific coast, Blue Spirit offers participants the opportunity to sample from the week’s courses as they choose, and I’m delighted to be teaching this year with Roshi Joan Halifax and Joan Borysenko among others. I hope to see you there!  Click here for more info and registration.

What Is Enough?: Indestructible Gratitude – Seekers Session

Join me this Sunday, November 6 at 5 pm EST for the Live Seekers Session Teleconference, What Is Enough?: Indestructible Gratitude. We’ll be talking about sufficiency and the cultivation of thankfulness. To recognize your inherent wholeness is the heart of spiritual practice. To feel gratitude for our precious lives, knowing that who you are is more than enough, is the bridge to an awakened life.

These monthly Seekers Sessions are the kickoff to each new program from The Seekers Forum, my community of fellow seekers and inquisitive minds interested in exploring spiritual and philosophical questions in a dogma-free atmosphere of self-inquiry, inspiration, and spiritual practice. It’s modeled after the sufi concept of sohbet, which is the spiritual talk of friends. Each program continues through the month with video lessons, a guest interview, and discussion prompts to promote dialog and further the conversation in The Forum, the online discussion room. Visit The Seekers Forum for more information and to become a member.
